Ainslie Ford – Festival Series

ainslie

Ainslie Ford has been passionate about electronic music since childhood. Discovering the eccentricities of Yello and growing up in the break dance revolution of London in early 80’s set the tone for the welcome re-discovery of the programmed sounds of slamming techno and jungle back in his native Zimbabwe in the 90’s.

Becoming a “displaced-previously-advantaged” Zimbabwean meant the world was his sonic oyster.
Ainslie found himself in Cape Town where his passion was fuelled by the Goa trance and ‘rave’ of the dance music explosion there.

A notorious regular on clublands dance floors, and even podiums, the time came to get a ‘decks’ job.
After achieving some notoriety in some of the more well-known clubs in Cape Town and picking up a Sound Engineering qualification he packed his record bags and headed off to the UK.

Crash-landing, almost fortuitously, in Maidstone, Kent, he secured a residency at the River Bar – best known for being the breaking ground of Nic Fanciuli. The Loft, known for its hardcore prog-heads, also bore witness to seamless mixing of progressive pleasure.

Moving to London gave Ainslie the opportunity to experiment with his sound at warehouse, underground and “squat” parties which test any aspiring dj’s mettle.

Towards the end of his sabbatical he also started “Sunday Sessions” at the infamous Cook bar / club in Acton which has launched careers, the likes of Phil and Tara Reynolds.

Moving back to S.A – Ainslie tried his hand in Jo’burg. Rocking 5 hour plus sets were the order of the day of residencies at Trance-sky and DCM.

A chain of events lead him back to Cape Town and in to the notorious Sliver and on to Mutha FM.

Building on his reputation of being a slick and smooth blender of story-like sets he found his way in to the community that has been created by the Rhythm Is My Bitch massive and their intimate underground events, and has discovered a crowd that is as hungry for the freshest sound as he is for uncovering it.

The 08/09 season looks to be hotting up for this mixmeister. With guest mixes featured on The NightWatchmen on GHFM, outdoor festival slots, club nights and R.I.M.B’s own events, under the summer seasons tag; MOIST, Ainslie looks like he will be laying his own special brand of mayhem down at a dancefloor near you this summer.

For these mixes, Ainslie delivers big rolling, slightly psychedelic minimal techno and progtech building in to tech/proglectro in the second 90-odd minutes.
