Second podcast for March, and we feature the talented Cape Town electro DJ Orlando Doom.

Orlando Doom hails from the city of Cape Town – grew up playing in post punk and indie bands as a kid and got heavily influenced by the whole electronic music scene in the late 90’s. Combining those two loves he plays an infamous blend of emotional and melodic electro making your heart beat and feet jump ….. co host of the DAYDREAM NATION parties in cape town and one third of the band TIGERSTRIKE catch him playing at dancefloors across the country or hit up www.baselinestudio.co.za to get a taste of whats playing in his head.

Can you describe your personal sound in a bit more detail?
Ive been told my music is rather emotional …. i suppose i like to play music with feeling … melodic dirty electro … i like the way that sounds

What/who have been Influences in your life?
Oh …. so many . so many punk/indie bands of the 80s/90s ..way too many indie/electro bands at the moment… the first time somone gave me chemical brothers on a tape way back in the day … all my friends … hipless couples … tigerstrike! … so many electro producers at the moment… that whole movement .. the hype behind it … it blows my mind everyday …

Who are some of your favorite producers?
Mmmmmmm …. how much space you got here … im gonna leave the bands out as that would just take up space … but here goes a few on my playlists at the moment.. JOE AND WILL ASK definately number 1 .. DIGITALISM … LE CASTLE VANIA … TRENTEMOLLER … THE GLAMOUR … JOKERS OF THE SCENE … south central..VILLIANS .. LA RIOTS … anything SPOEK gets up to … OCELOT .. BUILD … the TEENAGERS remixes make me so happy .. im sitting in an airport so im gonna cut this short

Best memories as a DJ?
Playing the first DAYDREAM NATION parties in long street with HIPLESS COUPLES … smoke machines .. strobes..dogiest sound set ups … banging sound.. sweat and pure people just down to party till the doors shut … best crowd best music … hands fucking down

What equipment do you use?
Tracktor – novation x-station – kaos pad and lots of love

What can listeners/dance floors expect from a typical set of yours?
A jump up set from start to finish with dancey,hard and sometimes dreamy electro … always delivered with so much feeling

The first track is pretty dated but still blows any dancefloor even though it makes me wanna cry every time I hear it

Im a huge foals fan …. They one of the coolest new bands to come outta the UK… they put electric bloom online for remix and so many remixes got done … millions … this one stood out so much .. I got it early last year and played it so much especially in Europe..it has that summer Ibiza feel … if any of my friends hear this they cringe cause I tend to play it everywhere… I don’t know… I totally feel it

frankmusik … he is so huge in London right now… A1 bassline did a remix of 3 little words which was so so good … this is the next step … such a good remix from the trouble and bass crew

Designer drugs … these guys at a stage pushed out remixes everyweek.. this one gets the LE CASTLE VANIA treatment … both artists are high up on my list especially le castle vania … whatever has his name behind it just tears any dancefloor apart

What do I need to say about this track ???? a huge dancefloor banger that gets the above mentioned vania treatment …when the track breaks in the beginning you cant help but start jumping

Figure is a mate from the states …he has been producing for a few years now and is a killer DJ aswell … lately he is coming into his own and his chopped up bouncy style is one of the freshest sounds at the moment… this track of his gets the COIN OPERATED BOY treatment

No words on this one - hot chip ….. fake blood …. need I say more ????

Hahahaha…. I know some people who would kill me for playing this track … but all cheese pop is rinsed out of this TING TINGS track and replaced with the dark electro mastery of THE JAPANESE POPSTARS …. these guys are often overlooked… don’t sleep on them … they kinda remind me of a new generation CHEMICAL BROTHERS

I end this mix with DIGITALISM’s taken away …. Fredrick carlsson takes the track to a smooth liquid end …. I never thought these guys could ever back up the massive POGO track but the more I hear of this track im sure they not near the end yet
