Dubmaster China – 20th Anniversary Mix

Dubmasta China, aka Seven Raggasouljah, is a true local Reggae music legend. Over the past twenty years he has walked tall across the grounds of Cape Town’s rich and vast music scene, the roots of its soil being his strength and inspiration. He’s a Deejay, percussionist, producer and selecta (just so you know, in Soundsystem culture Deejay is the same as Emcee, as in the guy on the mic, and Selecta the same as DJ, as in someone who mixes records). He’s worked with some of the Mother City’s great musical minds such as Grenville Williams, Teba, EJ Von Lyrik, Sean Ou Tim and Farrell Adams to name just a few.

In fact you probably couldn’t fit all the people he’s worked with into the Red Bull Studios, and for those of you who’ve been here, you’ll know it’s a pretty big space. So it really makes sense that to celebrate China’s 20th Anniversary in the music scene, he’s chosen a big club with an arsenal of some of city’s finest musicians and selectas.

So you know Dubmasta China’s “Still Blazin’: 20 Years Behind the Decks” is going down at Mercury Live on Wednesday the 23rd and features Teba The Original Social Worker, EJ von Lyrik, Fong Kong Bantu Sound System ft DForm, Dj Dope, Dj Azuhl, Mix ‘n Blend, Miss H, Funafuji, Honey Bee, Lehrl (Austria), The Boogieman and of course China himself bringing the fire to probably the best night out before Thursday’s Heritage Day. R50 entrance means its serious value for your money.

China attended the Red Bull Music Academy Taster some months back so in honour of his presence we thought we’d post this commemorative “Still Blazin” mix. I mean just look at the tracklisting below. Large doses of reggae, ragga, dancehall and roots music plus bonus tracks from Ej Von Lyrik, Teba and Seven Raggasouljah himself. I’m super bummed that I’m in Joburg on the night of the gig, but at least I have this mix to bump loud in my car on the night. Big respect to China for making this for us to upload and for the fans to download. We wish him many more years of musical fire.
