LU41, Enough Weapons
If seeing a dance floor rage in awe and getting down to world class music sets off your radar, then tilt your ears and have a listen to this.
Enough Weapons are a Cape Town based underground beat production duo. They have a knack for crafting dirty breaks and nuskool tech, topped off with their trademark recipe of twistedly-kinky-rhythms and beefy-ground-basslines. As a duo the two beat lovers have reaped about 13 years of DJ-ing and music Production skills and exude sinister, filthy and funky music.
2008 Saw them breaking onto the South African and European dance scenes, appearing at local gigs and releasing their first singles globally. Being picked up almost instantly by Fracture Records, they released singles ‘Dirty Typist’ and ‘Senseless’ in 2008. Followed shortly by the remix [‘Smut’] by MPI Project for Kloraform records and ‘Warning Label’ as an intro track for the compilation Lockdown on Disasterpeace records.
In 2009 they’ve shown their worth in new track releases [a total of 7], distributing through record labels based in the United States, Britain, Italy and South Africa. Flexing their strictly Enough Weapons Live sets, one half of the duo [six-six-one] plays a mixed box DJ set ranging between dub, electro and breaks.
Going on 2010 they’re entering their third year with a new Live performance act, featuring 20 fingers tickling grand gadgets that will boost your bass addiction [..includes Kaos pads, Nordlead 3 and secret weapons].
The first two months of 2010 already hold numerous global single/ EP releases and live performances. Expect to hear them breaking out some more epic sounds through-out the New Year…
Can you describe your personal sound in a bit more detail?
We certainly consider our sound to steer more towards the underground vibe, yet we find our tracks to have that dance floor friendly element to them. Our style of breaks is certainly high energy and at times abrasive yet funky. We like to think our style is unique and cutting edge.
What/who have been Influences in your life?
On the musical side, these artists have influenced our music the most- Justice, Rogue Element, Plump Dj’s, Bloody Beatroots, Far Too Loud and Prodigy. Other influences would be the other genres of music we listen to. Both of us come from a diverse musical background and we often find ourselves drawing inspiration and being influenced by various other styles of music, not all of them necessarily dance.
Who are some of your favourite producers & djs?
Favorite Dj’s and Producers would definitely include Ben and Lex, Stanton Warriors, Bassbin Twins, Justice, Adam Freeland and locally, big fans of Blunted Stuntman.
Best memories as a DJ?
As Enough Weapons we have had a fairly short career so far, however probably the most memorable time to date was playing New years Eve at the Rezonace Festival 2009/10. Was really great to see our latest tracks go down well.
What equipment do you use?
For production we work in Logic, use a sampler and a Nord Lead 3. For live act’s we use samplers, Kaoss Pad, and the Nord along with some cdj’s.
What can listeners/dance floors expect from a typical set of yours?
A live Enough Weapons set will be filled with high energy, fists in the air… that sort of thing.
